BIRT 4.2 released

Version 4.2 of the popular Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools Framework (BIRT) has been released last week. Starting with the new version the BIRT Designer is built on top of Eclipse 4 (Juno) and therefore has a slightly different look and feel.

What’s new in 4.2?

  • Excel DataSource: Data can now be fetched from Excel documents. The new datasource is an enhanced and probably redesigned version of the Excel Data Source written by one of the community members
  • Maven support: The built process of the BIRT project has been changed to upload new versions of the BIRT runtime to the Sonatype repository. If you are using Maven it is now much easier to integrate the runtime in your own apps.
  • relative file support for CSV datasource

The official “New and noteable features” list can be found here and lists more features. The ones marked with a star sign and the donut chart already existed in BIRT 3.7.2.
