MySQL offers a few open source tools which could simplify database development for MySQL databases (e.g. the MySQL Workbench). Nevertheless these tools have their limitations and are not very user friendly (to my mind) if you are used to commercial products for other databases.
Quest Software, the are the people behind Toad (a very powerful but commercial database development tool for Oracle databases) announced that they now also offer a freeware version of Toad for MySQL 5.0+ database servers. Toad for MySQL is pretty much comparable to Toad for Oracle.
You can generate Table, Triggers, Indexes and procedures, analyze statements and database bottlenecks using a graphical interface.
